Yesterday I was torn between doing the Potsdam day trip with IES and attending a lecture at Humboldt Universität, the university where I’m taking my German intensive course and am technically enrolled at. The Humboldt lecture won, because I would have had to get up early on a Saturday morning for Potsdam.

My Berlin life: Settling into a routine
I’ve been in Berlin for just over a week, and I’m almost finished with my first week of German intensive courses! The “real” classes won’t begin until October, and until then we have three weeks of intensive German lessons and more orientation stuff most afternoons. Here’s what a typical day looks like for me at this point.

While my first thought this weekend was to go to a museum this weekend, I decided to take advantage of the blue skies and visit Berlin’s two tallest towers, the Fernsehturm (TV Tower) and Siegessäule.

Street Art (finally…some photos!)
Walking around the city with some newly-made friends from IES, we passed an artist drawing a landscape of Berlin on the sidewalk. I stopped to take a picture, and was about to walk away when what I learned in Photojournalism class kicked in and I decided to stop to talk to him.
