Yesterday I was torn between doing the Potsdam day trip with IES and attending a lecture at Humboldt Universität, the university where I’m taking my German intensive course and am technically enrolled at. The Humboldt lecture won, because I would have had to get up early on a Saturday morning for Potsdam.

While my first thought this weekend was to go to a museum this weekend, I decided to take advantage of the blue skies and visit Berlin’s two tallest towers, the Fernsehturm (TV Tower) and Siegessäule.

Walking around the city with some newly-made friends from IES, we passed an artist drawing a landscape of Berlin on the sidewalk. I stopped to take a picture, and was about to walk away when what I learned in Photojournalism class kicked in and I decided to stop to talk to him.
Welcome to Berlin!
When I got to the airport, all the anxiety about this trip I’d been feeling over the previous few days melted away. I finally felt excited and ready to go–as ready as you can ever be for a trip of this caliber.

I received my housing information from IES a couple of weeks ago. I will be sharing an apartment with a 59-year-old grandmother!
